Can one attorney represent both sides in a divorce?

One attorney cannot represent both a husband and wife in a divorce case. And the reason for that is a husband and wife going through a divorce have an inherent conflict of interest, a direct conflict of interest. So even if an attorney wants to be helpful in facilitating the process of divorce, they technically cannot represent both parties.
