32-year-old professional boxer and former WBO-NABO super welterweight champion James Kirkland was arrested in Austin on Monday, August 8. His charges come in connection to a child support case, an article of TMZ reported.
The Travis County Sheriff’s Department booked Kirkland for contempt of court for non-payment of child support. Though the article did not specify how much Kirkland owes in child support, he made over $1 million for one May 2015 fight against 26-year-old Canelo Alvarez. Kirkland is also reportedly negotiating to fight 36-year-old Puerto Rican former four-division world champion Miguel Vasquez later this year. Other future opponents include 27-year-old Canadian boxer David Lemieux. Lemieux formerly held the International Boxing Federation middleweight title.
