My spouse filed for a divorce, can I stop it?

Posted on October 27, 2020 by Chris Kirker

Unfortunately, you can’t stop a divorce that’s started just because you don’t want it to happen. Both of you guys can agree to drop the divorce case if that’s something that the two of you agree on. But if your spouse wants to get divorced, and you don’t, unfortunately, the divorce can still go on. It’s important that you hire an attorney, though, and talk to them about your options, even if you are philosophically opposed to the divorce because it’s going to happen whether or not you want to or not. And you should have a seat at that table in determining what the rules are going to be for your divorce. And for that reason, even though you don’t like it, even though you don’t want it, you have to start being involved in it.
