In 2019, Michelle moved back to Austin to be closer to family. As a young child, Michelle was an Air Force brat and lived in many states as well as in Japan. When she was 8 years old, her family moved to the Houston area and she attended college and graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin. Michelle received her Bachelor’s degree in History and Psychology and her Masters in Counseling Psychology. She then worked for over fifteen years in the Seattle area as a licensed mental health counselor where much of her work focused on serving children in special education –particularly those who qualified for services due to emotional and behavioral disabilities. That work inspired her to go to law school where she knew that she would be able to build upon the knowledge she had as a counselor and educational consultant to help children and families in a legal context. She attended Seattle University School of Law and graduated Cum Laude.
After law school, Michelle became the program attorney for a non-profit that provided volunteer ad litem services for children. The Court would appoint the ad litems in cases where it had concerns about the children’s health and safety. That experience allowed Michelle ample courtroom and trial experience. Michelle then moved to private practice with DuBois Cary Law Group, a boutique, family law firm in Seattle.
Most recently, Michelle worked at the State Bar of Texas overseeing a program focused on helping lawyers work to overcome difficulties in their practice as well as to provide coaching for them.
Michelle uses her experience when advising clients about the emotional and legal risks of engaging in high conflict litigation. She is a trained mediator and uses those skills whenever possible to encourage clients to be creative in resolving family conflicts.
