How long does a typical divorce take?

Posted on October 27, 2020 by Chris Kirker

A typical divorce case will range on how long it takes. A simple, straightforward, and agreed divorce case can take anywhere from about 60 days to 6 months. A highly contentious, difficult, complex case can take a year or more, depending on if the parties are incentivized to move the case forward. But the short answer is the length of your divorce case will depend on you and your spouse’s ability to reach agreements. And if you cannot reach agreements and ultimately go to a final trial, it will be longer than if you had reached agreements earlier on.
