Thirty-seven-year-old Brazilian-American actress Morena Baccarin and her ex-husband, 45-year-old film director, screenwriter, and producer Austin Chick are in legal contention over Baccarin’s plans to take their son, three-year-old Julius, on a trip to Brazil.
Baccarin reportedly asked Chick for permission to take Julius to Brazil on Oct. 16, 2016, but Chick refused due to concerns over the Zika virus, a disease primarily caused by the Aedes mosquito which can cause birth defect microcephaly, conjunctivitis, muscle or joint pain, and other symptoms.
A report from entertainment news network TMZ showed that Baccarin has already filed paperwork asking a court to issue an order that would require Austin to let Baccarin and their child go on the trip, as Julius’ pediatrician has already indicated that the Zika virus is “not a concern” for him.
The former couple had been divorced on March 16, 2015. In November 2015, Baccarin was ordered to provide Austin with child and spousal support worth $23,000 per month.
