The Kirker Davis LLP legal internship provides Legal Interns a practical learning experience focused on the daily operations of a boutique family law firm. Designed for undergraduate students seeking meaningful exposure to the legal field, the program emphasizes workflow management, client-focused service delivery, and teamwork within a dynamic environment. Interns develop essential legal support skills in office administration and case management that form the foundation of effective practice in a law firm setting.
Legal Interns assist with a wide range of administrative and case-related tasks that are critical to the firm’s operations:
– Organizing files, monitoring calendars, meeting deadlines, and documenting correspondence
– Inputting information into case files and case management software
– Providing office support, including cross-covering for teammates, answering phones, and supporting front desk and back office operations
– Preparing materials for mediation, hearings, discovery, responses, and filings under attorney or paralegal guidance
– Assisting with executive and administrative projects and special assignments as needed
Legal Interns begin with a structured onboarding and orientation, which introduces firm policies, practices, and resources. Training materials, checklists, and manuals provide clear guidance on responsibilities and procedures. Supervision occurs at multiple levels:
– Task-level supervision by experienced staff
– Participation in weekly operations huddles to review projects and share progress
– Regular feedback and professional development support from the firm’s leadership team
Interns work closely with other interns, long-term staff, and attorneys in a collaborative team environment, receiving both guidance and opportunities to contribute meaningfully to case preparation and firm operations.
The internship helps students strengthen attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication within a professional legal setting. Interns gain firsthand exposure to the client-service mindset that defines boutique family law practice, and they leave with an understanding of law firm operations that prepares them for future clerkships, employment, or law school experiences.
