Forty-eight-year-old William and 36-year-old Claire Rembis are charged with neglecting their 11 children. Child neglect investigations began plaguing the couple in 2001 in Michigan and New Jersey, and are now in Texas.
One neighbor claimed in September that the couple’s children “eat out of the trash.” However, the couple deemed her claim “ridiculous.” Both parents also dispute allegations that they play music to muffle the sounds of screaming inside the house. Reports that the house contains a “strong foul odor” are also under dispute. In response to accusations of neglect, William Rembis said their family receives $1,100 in monthly food stamps.
